On 21 february – Traditional, but never boring.
Biike is a Frisian word and means beacon in High German and Low German. The basic meaning of this word is sign, mark, notice. So Biikebrennen is a burning sign. The Biikebrennen bonfires originated 2000 years ago. However, the exact meaning or background is not clear. Some claim that the fire was used on the North Frisian islands to bid farewell to the whalers. Or perhaps to say goodbye to winter?
In hearty North Frisian cuisine, eating green cabbage has a long tradition. Our kitchen crew has therefore put together a delicious buffet for you again this year. You can partly admire the bonfire directly from your table (change possible due to weather conditions).
